Grinding for characters could be a little tedious, but if you’re going to main just a few chars to play competitively, I don’t think it’s too bad. They found an art style that keeps these characters true to their original shows but also mesh well together in one video game. You have characters from old schooled cartoons like Tom & Jerry and newer cartoons like Adventure Time, combined with modern DC superheroes, and even live-action characters from GoT. Especially if you compared it to the Nick fighting game that did not have voice acting when it came out. Seeing these super popular characters interacting with each other where they never met before feels like a true crossover. Like Batman would have a line making fun of Shaggy when they fight. The characters are fully voice acted, and they even have character-specific dialogs with characters outside of their universes. The brand name is obvious, but it’s also extremely polished and not a cash grab selling on brand names alone. I have been playing the game for 20+ hours and here are my take on the popularity:
